Projects

FASTlab has a proven track record of impact and innovation. Some of our key milestones include: Award Winning Projects

Night Time Spaces
Night Times Spaces Winner of the Good Design Awards delivered with industry partners, researchers and the community the Jury commented: "The strategic development of content and community engagement helped bring this project to life, resulting in a space that redefines the way we deal with anti-social behaviours in public spaces and offers a more positive and inclusive way forward.

Sustainnovation Challenge
Launched in mid-2022, the Sustainnovation Challenge invited local secondary students to design actionable solutions to pressing community issues. Led by MCB Business Partners in collaboration with the Southwest Sydney RIEP team and supported by FASTlab’s creative research methodologies, the program connected students with council, industry, and education partners. FASTlab’s involvement ensured that the Sustainnovation Challenge wasn’t simply a series of competitions—but a framework for applied creative learning. By embedding design thinking, co-creation, and impact measurement methodologies, FASTlab helped position the Challenge as a replicable model for community-led innovation. This collaboration exemplifies the lab’s broader mission of linking creative practice to social, environmental, and economic outcomes, as articulated in The Elephant’s Leg II.

Music and Robotics
This project is a fantastic example of FASTlab's thinking. Researchers Jon Drummond and Adam Manning, in partnership with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, have generated an incredible amount of interest and engagement with the next generation through music and robotics. The hangdrum is controlled by a theremin (electronic musical instrument) and plays a composition that is computer code.

Singleton Laneways
FASTlab's Founders Egglestone and Minichiello won funding from Singleton Council to deliver an Transformative Public Art intervetion. Produced by Art Thinkin's Kristefaqn Minski - Creative Industries researchers 'pitched' their ideas to creater a series of interactive displays From shadows and thought-boxes, to video projections, murals and sound devices, the Singleton Living Laneways project brings spaces to life through a suite of engaging, high-impact activations that celebrate creative life and identity. Engaging everyone in the decisions that impact us all is crucial to building strong and resilient communities.

Regain Health Innovation & Leadership

RegainFASTlab's founders Paul Egglestone and Mario Minichiello have spent several years working with communities, clinicians, technologists and designers. They have been developing their own products and services alongside assisting others through research centres like the Australian Research Council's "Connected Sensors for Health" research hub and leading the Healthy at Home Program. Regain is their strike recovery and rehabilitation platform.

Global Partnerships
Global Partnerships International CollaboorationFASTlab fosters international collaboration by connecting researchers, scientists, and innovators worldwide to address complex challenges and drive impactful solutions. Through its advanced platforms like CollabIQ, the organization streamlines communication, knowledge sharing, and project management across borders, ensuring seamless integration of diverse expertise

Safer Spaces for Women and Girls
Safer Spaces for Women and GirlsAn exemplary project that FASTLab founder Paul Egglestone led is the Safer Spaces for Women and Girls initiative, which reimagines public safety for women through trauma-informed, culturally safe practices. Using a co-design methodology, FASTlab's Egglestone collaborated with stakeholders— the women and girls themselves—to identify key pain points and develop impactful solutions. Locally commissioned artist responded to the user data producing the illustrations that formed the visual identity for the project.
